5 easy peasy ways to put the pizzazz back into your daily routine

“With the past, I have nothing to do; nor with the future. I live now.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

On a daily basis i.e. every day we wake up, eat, go to work, eat, sleep, and do it all over again the next day. We find a system that makes life run smoothly and that adds to our productivity. And it works – for awhile atleast. But eventually we’re living a routine, ordinary life. It’s the same stuff every day. Before we know it, instead of being more motivated, the system traps us within an unchanging stale and counter-productive rut. And believe me, its not a good place to be trapped in!

In order to prevent drudgery and boredom, it’s important to change things up every now and again. Add some pizzazz into the day! Re-energize! Of course, you can shake things up in a really big way if you want to. But the little things work just as well to make life more meaningful. All it takes to put the pizzazz back into your routine is a little creativity. Below are five easy peasy ways to get your  juices flowing again and add some sparkling pizazz back into your day.

5 easy peasy ways to put the pizzazz back into your daily routine

1}Cook a New Dish

“Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark. Professionals built the Titanic.

Life is busy and people often say they don’t have enough time for cooking, let alone exploring new recipes. But cooking can become a form of creative expression rather than a chore. Even if you’re busy or not such a good cook, the act of cooking can get you out of your rut. Getting your hands of real food connects your spirit with life. Cooking can inspire and wake up your joy of being alive. You don’t have to be a gourmet cook or do anything fancy. For example try poached eggs instead of the tried and true scrambled. Stepping out of your routine and trying new ways of cooking things helps you wake up your life.

2}Tend a Garden

“Anything which grows is always more beautiful to look at than anything which is built.”–Lin Yu Tang

Flowers, foliage, herbs, fruits, and vegetables. Oh my! Why garden? Because the act of gardening energizes, filling us with joy and hope. It gets us outside and connected with life and noticing the constantly changing weather patterns. Tending a garden brings peace and solitude. Not to mention hummingbirds, butterflies, and geckos. Tending a garden may well be one of the best antidotes to a busy, routine life. My new home requires a few pots….tomorrow is planting new pots days for me too :)

3}Write

“The act of putting pen to paper encourages pause for thought, this in turn makes us think more deeply about life, which helps us regain our equilibrium.  ~Norbet Platt

You don’t have to be a great writer, a perfect speller, or an inspired writer to keep a journal. Write because you want to write, not because you have to. Writing helps ground you in the knowledge of who you really are. Writing connects the mind with the spirit. When you write, you gradually open and learn the answers to Who am I? You discover you have unique thoughts, opinions, emotions, passions, convictions, and ideas.

4}Improve Your Relationships

Little kindness and courtesies are so important. In relationships, the little things are the big things. - Stephen R. Covey

Over time all long-term relationships grow and change. Your emotional needs, hobbies, interests and values evolve, and so do theirs. It can be easy to grow apart. Peek into your closest relationships and find innovative ways to spruce things up. What would bring back the laughter, the easy joy, and camaraderie? Could you take walks together? Share dinner or pies? Buy him or her little gifts or groceries when you’re out shopping? Ask if they want to get involved with a personal project? Too often, people put their best selves out there to their work colleagues, but show up uninvolved or uninspired with those they love most. Today, show your friend or lover (in actions) that you value your relationship with him or her more than any other relationship in your life.

5}Closet Makeover

If you’re feeling a bit “blah” rather than fabulous, then maybe it’s time to shake up your closet. First, get in there with five extra-large boxes or oversized trash bags and start thinning herd. Shoes, belts, socks, underwear, winter sweaters, and last year’s shirts. Sort through them all and let go of anything that no longer feels right. Your mind might protest, but let it go. Give it to goodwill. I’m sure they would love to have your stuff. And you’ll have room to breathe when only your favorite clothes remain. Then, take yourself out shopping. Can’t afford to buy a whole new wardrobe? Buy some essential mood lifting pieces.

Small changes work

You don’t have to make sweeping changes in order to get yourself out of auto-pilot and into pizzazz mode. Just start finding new ways to do the every day things. Rearrange all the pictures in your home, change the energy behind how you do your tasks, try driving to work on different routes, or do something just for the joy of doing it. Try the ideas above and then start finding your own creative ways to make sure all your days shine!

  1. I love these ways of being strategically spontaneous! You are so right how easy it is to fall into a rut. I love your emphasis on just finding small ways to spruce up your routine. That makes it doable!

    • Hi Sandra,
Many a times I have readers write to me saying…’hey, easier said than done…’
So here I am making sure it gets done easily ;)
Glad you liked these tips and thank you for your lovely comment here.
      Much Love~

  2. thanks Zeenat

Good reminders to change our routines to keep our feelings & perspective fresh. I like to change activities, driving routes, take a mini vacation ( even going to a neighboring town),
go outside at night, or any nature time to refresh in general.

    • Hi Brad,
Going to a neighboring town seems like such a good shift from your daily life. So much new in that act itself..nice!
Youre kindof a pro at keeping things fresh hmmm :) I bet there is a post in this topic waiting to be written by you :)
Thank you for sharing your beautiful fresh self here.
      Much Love~

  3. Now I am pretty sure you can read my mind, Zee. These are my favorite ways to re-energize. Easy, part of the existing routine, but easy to jazz up. Love you! I would add music to this – as it has great healing powers in many ways!

    • Darling Vidya,
Youre my online energy bar ;) I mean your energy online is so beautiful I can imagine how much fun youre offline :)
There is healing in so many of the daily acts we do….. :)
Thank you for your loving comment here.
      Love you too!

  4. Isn’t this the truth!! I do your first four tips on an almost daily basis. The closet is a little harder for me. But I feel so good when everything is organized!! Thank you for the reminders! Love the Emerson quote. I was just looking at it on facebook today.

    • Dear Betsy,
I’m like you…I feel super great when everything is organized…and then when it all starts piling up…i know its time for Goodwill ;)
The easiest way for me to organize is first take out for goodwill and then decide what to keep …
Emerson has a way to touch those heart chords ….
So glad you liked these reminders.
Thank you for your lovely comment here.
      Much love~

  5. Great ideas! Cleaning out my closet never fails for me – I always feel refreshed when it’s done. Recently, I’ve shaken up my routine by going barefoot walking instead of wearing shoes. Not thinking, I did 4 miles my first go (I seriously wouldn’t recommend that!! lol) – it was great fun up until my feet were all scratched up… And some say it’s better for your feet/posture etc. I also took a hot yoga class, which was really, unexpectedly, fun. Shaking things up really does bring a little spark back to your daily life. :)

    • Hi Kaylee,
How lovely to see you here !
Your comment is so full of positive energy its infectious ;)
Hot yoga and walking bare foot..my God girl..youre the queen of shaking things up and keeping ti fresh. YAY you :)
Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful energy here.

  6. 1. Easy Peasy Eggplant Pizza with Three Cheesy PizzazTopping

    2. My peace garden has a three sided patch of grass (Trinity). There are Jade plants, primroses, lemon bush, orange gladiolas, wispy broom grass, miniature roses, morning glory vine, and a wild sunflower growing out of my antique Ozark Pottery vase. Also a grub digging skunk resides there during the night…oh yes…one plastic iconic pink flamingo (which the skunk seems to stay away from).

    3.

‘While trying to get easily peasily out of a rut
My friend Z gave me five pizzaz ways
to help bring me freely off my butt:

    With fresh garden veg cooking
in a pot found in the corner
    of the closet.
A friend and I sipped wine
    as other ingredients declined
and until thus my written recipe
    was smitten.
    To which sitting with
    joyous laughter void of logic
in such a manner did we dine.’

    4. Zeenat, I am still working on the above poem to change from fiction to non fiction. You said that there would be “no doubt” and that is the way it should be. I will keep my pencil sharpen if there does come such a time to be with the ‘one that is right for me’.

    5. Oh boy…I am looking out at my storage shed right now…

Thank you my dear Z   :)

  7. Another great post dearest Zeenat! I usually try the 1st, 3rd and 5th points to come out of the rut and get re-energized and feel fresh. I agree with you on the note that small changes work. And pretty soon, I’ll try my hands at gardening too (yippie!)….You inspire me to a great extent dear.
    Love Love and Love
