Let The Symphony of Contentment Inspire You

The Symphony of Contentment “To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury;
and refinement rather than fashion; to be worthy, not respectable;
and wealthy, not rich; to study hard, think quietly,
talk gently, act frankly; to listen to stars and birds,
to babes and sages, with open heart;
to bear all cheerfully, do all bravely,
await occasion, hurry never; in a word,
to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious grow up through the common.
This is to be my symphony.” ~William Ellery Channing

We each have our ways of living and surviving on this planet. No one comes with a handbook on life and knows exactly how to do things when in a sticky situation. So, we do the best we can. Sometimes we are not happy with the outcome, there in comes discontent and unhappiness. But, there are some core gifts we are each given right from birth which we forget to use on a daily basis.

Your Divine Gifts

LOVE: We were given the gift of love, we chose to mask that love with greed as we grow older.

SELF CONFIDENCE: We were given the gift of utter self confidence, which made us dance in the rain when we were four years old…a gift we lose as we try to ‘fit in’ when we grow older.

CONTENTMENT: We were given the gift of contentment, which made us content with just our mothers milk when we were infants….another gift we our self choose to plague with vanity and variety.

The Symphony of Contentment

I have not always been the most content person in the world. I wanted to be the IN thing, have the best of it all, not for my own happiness but to show off to my peers that I stood for something. In the process though I lost myself…I lost my gifts and then kept complaining to the Divine that you have not given me anything. I am not worth it.

Contentment was something that came after I was forced to give up all my vanity pretty early on. The cushy life went out the window with the passing of my father. In those days and the life that proceeded after, the truth of life dawned on me. When I had to chose between wants and needs, is when I realized how much or rather how many of my core Divinely given gifts I was neglecting.

I learned that it doesn’t take too much to make us happy and content. All we need is a little love and a little bit of simplicity and all will be happy in our world.

Like the quote above suggests, to choose elegance over luxury, to have an open heart to absorb all the gifts that we have been given and to use those gifts to be happy…..that is the true symphony of contentment.

Your Positive Prompt this Sunday: Please give yourself the opportunity and privilege to acknowledge your divine gifts. Think about your childhood days and bring back that child like contentment back to this life you are living.

Next Week: I know that by no means is the topic of contentment over after writing this post. Infact I have a longing to write another post where I want to show you how simple it is to be truly content and happy. So next week, I’ll share with you some practical ways to bring back that childlike contentment to your life….If I can do it, so can you :)

Please Note: Every Sunday will be Inspirational Day on Positive Provocations. I will be sharing inspirational verses, lyrics, poetry, quotes, videos etc. Things that have truly inspired me over the week and hope that it will inspire you too. If you have something inspirational to share, something that has truly inspired you recently, send it to me. I will publish it here on Sunday with due credit to you :)

  1. Zeenat, Contentment is an important topic. Maybe one of the core foundations like love. I almost called my blog simple satisfactions. What do you think?

    To contentment and simple satisfactions, Brad

  2. Thank you for this inspiration today, Zeenat. You are right on as always!

  3. Hi Zeenat- wonderful and this weekend i am spenging time playing in nature which brings me to contentment Namaste

  4. Zeenat –
    I love you! You write from such a deep place in your heart that is exquisitely ‘simple’ –
    What you are saying is so true ~ and most of us are spending our lives ‘unlearning’ what we’ve been taught about success, money, and acceptance.

    The phrase that I loved from the quote is “think quietly,
    talk gently, act frankly; to listen to stars and birds,
    to babes and sages, with open heart;’

    Thank you dear Zeenat for helping to make my Sunday a beautiful one! xxoo

  5. Thanks for sharing this Zeenat – I’m looking forward to your next post on how to attain more contentment in our life. If we simply realize we have enough and focus on what we do have, we can reduce our desires and wants for more. More isn’t always better – sometimes more is simply more. More is unattainable and unsatisfactory.

    Thank you for the reminder that we are enough and we all have contentment within.

    Your Divine Gifts:

    I don’t normally promote like this, but I will be on my 4th photo journey this October 6th.

    It would be so enriching to have others from even more parts of the world join in the fun!

    Please come along and experience the *Magic*

    Thanks Zeenat…
