Rumi’s words have been a source of solace to my soul for a very long time. I grew up listening to my wise and philosophical dad quote Rumi on many occasions and then when I did actually grow up, I began to slowly understand the depth of his words. To this day, his words, his philosophy on all things love and life hits home for the heart centred Sufi girl in me.

All those who know me, know how much I LOVE “love”. And, when it comes to understanding the many layers of love…none other than Rumi’s words have the power to tug at the heart. In many a troubled times, his words have worked like a balm for my heart and soul.

Today I’d like to share with you some of my favourite quotes and poems by Rumi on all things LOVE in hope that they may be a solace to your heart and soul too ~

Rumi’s Soulful Advice on all LOVE

“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”

“The minute I heard my first love story, I started looking for you, not knowing how blind that was. Lovers don’t finally meet somewhere. They’re in each other all along.”

“When I am with you, we stay up all night. When you’re not here, I can’t go to sleep. Praise God for those two insomnias!
And the difference between them.”

“In your light I learn how to love. In your beauty, how to make poems. You dance inside my chest where no-one sees you, but sometimes I do, and that sight becomes this art.”

“Lovers don’t finally meet somewhere. They’re in each other all along.”

“There is a candle in your heart, ready to be kindled. There is a void in your soul, ready to be filled. You feel it, don’t you?”

“Words are a pretext. It is the inner bond that draws one person to another, not words.”

“Travel brings power and love back into your life.”

“This is love: to fly toward a secret sky, to cause a hundred veils to fall each moment. First to let go of life. Finally, to take a step without feet.”

“A thousand half-loves must be forsaken to take one whole heart home.”

“People want you to be happy. Don’t keep serving them your pain! If you could untie your wings and free your soul of jealousy,
you and everyone around you would fly up like doves.”

“Suffering is a gift. In it is hidden mercy.”

“Reason is powerless in the expression of Love.”

“Wherever you are, and whatever you do, be in love.”

1780777_10152244419766810_1833845894_n“An eye is meant to see things.
The soul is here for its own joy.

A head has one use: For loving a true love.
Feet: To chase after.

Love is for vanishing into the sky. The mind,
for learning what men have done and tried to do.

Mysteries are not to be solved: The eye goes blind
when it only wants to see why.

A lover is always accused of something.
But when he finds his love, whatever was lost
in the looking comes back completely changed.”

“Goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes. Because for those who love with heart and soul there is no such thing as separation.”

“Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray.”

“Only from the heart can you touch the sky.”

“What hurts you, blesses you. Darkness is your candle.”

“I was dead, then alive.
Weeping, then laughing.

The power of love came into me,
and I became fierce like a lion,
then tender like the evening star.”

“God turns you from one feeling to another and teaches by means of opposites so that you will have two wings to fly, not one”

“You have to keep breaking your heart until it opens.”

“Gamble everything for love, if you’re a true human being.”

“Love is the cure,
for your pain will keep giving birth to more pain
until your eyes constantly exhale love as effortlessly as your body yields its scent.”

  1. Beautiful post Zeenat. I too love Rumi and inspired words that touch my heart, as they seem to do for many of us seeking to live our lives with passion, love and truth. Let’s not wait for love, but fly into the wind howling with joy!- muse brad :)

  2. Zeenat, I love Rumi! The opening quote I’ve never heard before, so thank you for sharing it. Here’s my favorite, which encourages me to let go of comparison: Don’t be satisfied with stories, how things have gone with others. Unfold your own myth. ~ Rumi

  3. I’ve only recently discovered the wonderful works of Rumi-his words have changed my life.

  4. Absolutely beautiful! Thanks for sharing these soulful words on love with us. I love Rumi too.

  5. Love Rumi and his amazing true quotes, thanks for a lovely post!

  6. Thank you! Rumi feeds my heart and my soul!
I would like to add to your wonderful quotes, one of my favorites: “O Love, O pure deep love, be here, be now. Be all, worlds disolve into your stainless endless radiance. Frail living leaves burn with you brighter than cold stars. Make me your servant, your breath, your core. Rumi

  7. “There is a candle in your heart, ready to be kindled. There is a void in your soul, ready to be filled. You feel it, don’t you?”

I wrote this poem last year to go with my still-life photograph during one of Joy’s ’30 Day Magical Photo Journey’ classes:

The candle within is the light of my heart.
The mantle within shelves the sight of my life.
The gentle within delves the plight of your heart.
The ample within is the delight of my strife.
The rain within is the sound of my soul.
What pain within give and I will stole.
The grain within I share to keep you full.
What gain within to round you whole.
Without light I will seek your heart.
Without sight I will remember your face.
Without help I will come back to this place.
Without everything I will fill your heart.
Outside share the falling rain’s rife.
Outside under golden sun share my life.

Thank you Zeenat for Rumi’s *Love* and *Wisdom*…

  8. Love the post Zeenat and all the beautiful quotes from Rumi. This one jumped out at me, “An eye is meant to see things.
The soul is here for its own joy.” Thanks for sharing. I always leave your blog with a smile! :)

  9. “Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray.” These words have sustained me and cheered me on so many times. They let me know that what I want is worth it and of value to the world. Thanks for the reminder!
