5 Positive Ways to Master Your Own Mind

“Relax, let go, allow, and recognize that some of your desires are about how you think your world should be, rather than how it is in that moment. Become an astute observer…judge less and listen more. Take time to open your mind to the fascinating mystery and uncertainty that we all experience.” – Wayne W. Dyer, Change Your Thoughts – Change Your Life: Living the Wisdom of the Tao

Mastering our thoughts can be one of the most rewarding things we can achieve in life. While mastering our thoughts in not easy by any means, it is possible.

In the last article I shared how mastering my own thoughts led to me creating the life that I truly wanted. That can be possible for you too. There is nothing and I mean nothing in this whole wide world that can stop you from creating the life that you want, except you! Yes, you read that right. YOU can make the life you want and you can also stand in your own way and not make the life you want.

You need to decide once and for all, whether you want to be on the creating side or the destructing side.

Fine Tuning

The first thing you need to understand and fine tune is, what is the life of your dreams? What is this life you want to create? To do this, you will need to ask yourself a simple question, “What kind of life will make me happy?”

Because, if you don’t know what you want, how can you create it? It’s like deciding to cook a dish, but having no idea what to make, nor having a kitchen or ingredients to make it. No creation can be created, without it first being created in your mind.

Hence, fine tune what you truly want your life to look like first. Then the rest of the path clears itself for you.

Fine tuning and knowing what you want is you setting the stage to then mastering your thoughts fully.

5 Positive Ways to Master Your Own Mind

Once you have a vision, creating it becomes easier. Then comes the fun part, mastering your negative thoughts. Yikes! I know, I said fun, not really.

In life it is easy to be triggered into anxiety or anger or simply negative emotions. Sometimes the phone in your hand alone is a major culprit. You might be stopped at a light while listening to your favorite music, when you then receive a frantic email from a dissatisfied client or boss, or a text from an angry partner, which can throw you into an emotional tailspin. Add this to a list of other stressors, like traffic, bills, family committments and it can be very difficult to keep your cool when an unforeseen stressful event occurs. To keep your cool within a stressful situation, you have to remain in control of your thoughts. How you mentally and emotionally frame a particular situation can dramatically impact your emotional response to it.

“If you want power, control the narrative in other people’s head. If you seek happiness, control the narrative in your own head. ” – Johnny Uzan

But maintaining control during a stressful situation is far easier said than done, right?!

Here are 5 positive ways that will help you keep your cool during those stressful episodes and in the bigger picture help you create the life that YOU want. Because lets face it, how on earth do you create a happy life, while being plagued by stress, anxiety and emotional upheaval?

The positive ways that follow have helped me master my own thoughts too. I’m sure you will benefit from them.

1} Become Best Friends With Your Emotions:

Your emotions are your best guide on your healing path to master your own mind. Your emotions tell you when you’re feeling your highest and greatest good, they also tell you when you’ve strayed far away.

To begin being friends with your emotions you need to become consistently mindful of them, especially before your mind has a chance to run with pre-conditioned beliefs or negativity. Your emotions can range from a general feeling of anxiousness or nervousness, to full blown anger even. Regardless the fact that you are experiencing the emotion means it’s time to stop and evaluate your thoughts, before they gain negative speed. This way, you can acknowledge and release the negative emotions, rather than enhance them, with unnecessary worry and fear.

2} Be your own Centre:

Another aspect of mastering your own thoughts in knowing how to bring yourself back to your calm centre. This is the space you feel at ease with everything around you. Your calm centre can be something as simple as breathing the scent of an essential oil or listening to the waves of the ocean or a certain favorite color or going for a walk in nature. Whatever you feel works for you, to bring yourself back to your calming centre, be prepared to use this when your mind is trying to trick you into a negative spiral.

This practice does take some time to get a hang of, but once you have it, you have an instant way to mindfully and consciously come back to your calm centre. This puts you in control of how you want to think and feel.

3} Let your body talk to you:

Our bodies have a beautiful inner guidance system all their own. Even before we develop our emotional capabilities, our bodies talk to us in sometimes subtle, sometimes harsh ways. Your body can talk to you by way of butterflies in the pit of your stomach, or feeling uneasy before an important exam/interview, or sweating in a very cool temperature, or headaches or stomach pains out of nowhere. Sudden onset of illness is also your body talking to you.

When your body is talking to you in this way, its giving you a warning sign to listen and reevaluate your thoughts so that you can change the course of those thoughts towards a more nurturing side, rather than a self depreciating one.

4} Nutrition for the mind:

Just as your body requires nutritious food to be at optimum health, in the same way the mind requires nutritious food too. In order to feed the mind and body with nutrition the first step is to slowly eleminate all the junk from your diet, so that you can make space for the nutritious stuff. The junk for the mind is simply anything that triggers you in a negative way. This could be a video/image/words on your social media feeds or a show/movie you watch or reading/watching the world news or relationships that trigger you in the wrong way.

Eliminate these negative triggers so that you can make space for things that inspire and motivate you instead. Feeding the mind all that is good for it is a sure shot way to master your thinking. You think good things, good things will be then created in your life.

5} Learn from the Masters:

While mastering our thinking can feel like an uphill climb, there are many beautiful and highly evolved souls who have mastered it and have written books about it. Their memoirs, their struggles and their ways are needed food for thought on this journey. Because when we see that someone else has been able to master their thinking against all odds and come out triumphant, there is still hope for us all.

A few of my favorite authors who I love to learn from and grow with are Deepak Chopra, Eckhart Tolle, Wayne Dyer, Pema Chodron, Lousie Hay, Caroline Myss, Gregg Bradden, Robert Greene, Ryan Holland etc. There are ofcourse many many more, but these will get you going on the right track for sure. The links on their names will take you to their wikipedia page where you can find all the information about them and their published works.

As you start your journey into mastering your own mind, know that it is after all YOUR mind you are working with. And YOUR life that you are in the process of creating. Which means you are always always always going to be in control of how you think and how your life turns out. Which ultimately also means, that YOU above all have all the power in your life. Not for a single moment should you allow yourself to believe otherwise.

“What we think about ourselves becomes the truth for us.” ~ Louise L. Hay, You Can Heal Your Life

  1. Wonderful post Zeenat. I totally agree with you that in order to create a better life, we need to know what we want first and how to make ourselves happy. We’ve been programmed to believe it’s selfish to focus on ourselves but in reality it’s so important to know what we want.

Love the five ways you gave to master our mind: befriending and breathing into our emotions, finding our centre in nature, listening to our body and to others who are enlightened are great pointers. Kyle Cease is another great teacher I often listen to. Ultimately though, it’s our own inner voice we need to trust. Thanks for sharing this post. 🙏

    1. Miriam, I’m so glad you stopped by and shared your wisdom here. Yes, ultimately our inner guidance system is what truly matters. I will have to look into Kyle Cease’s work and have a listen 🙂 Thank you so so much for sharing ❤ ❤
