6 Ways to Stop Taking Things Personally

At the core, we are social beings. We tend to define ourselves by the relationships we nurture around us.

On a daily basis, we interact with a so many different people. Some are close and intimate, some are strangers. While all our interactions need to be mindful, the level of depth of the relationship directly affects the intensity of our interaction with that person.

Some people we get along with fabulously, while others not so much. Communicating and connecting with some people is harder than with others and this usually takes an emotional toll on us. THIS is where we start taking things personally, because our sensitivities to what these people say/do is heightened because of the friction that is already present in the relationship.

When we take things personally, we become sensitive to the words or actions of others or we interpret things in a negative way.

Beating anxiety is an uphill climb. Anxiety can feel like its taking over your life and not allowing you to really live freely. It makes doubt and fear your constant companion. As I discussed in a previous article on the 5 Step Plan to Positively Reduce Anxiety, there is hope. It can be handled.

Another beautiful and highly effective way to beat anxiety, especially when it comes to calming those nerves, is repeating positive affirmations. Being yourself isnt a choice. Its a way of life. Period.

Being you is not always the easiest thing to be. Believe me I have had a hard time in the past just being me until I found out who I was.

Embracing your true self means to celebrate your individuality – learning to express yourself and be happy with who you are. For some it’s learning to love yourself, for others, it’s not hiding who you are or changing things about you to fit in. I fall in both those categories. And its amazing how everyday I learn something new about myself and strive to unleash it to the world…all because I am ready to do the inner work to be authentically ME.
