There is a sacred silence that heals the soul. It is the silence of meditation, of dawn before the world awakens, of two people sitting together without the need to fill every moment with words. This silence nourishes. This silence heals. It creates space for truth to emerge.
But there is another kind of silence. It is the silence that punishes. The silence that controls. The silence that leaves another human being questioning their worth.
In sessions with clients, I have often witnessed people who say, “At least they never yelled at me.” Yet as they speak, their shoulders collapse under the weight of months or years …of being ignored, excluded, or emotionally abandoned. The wounds are invisible, but they are no less real.
Not every silence is peaceful. Sometimes silence becomes a weapon.
