3 Simple Steps to Forgive and Heal Bad Memories : Healing Through Forgiveness Series, Part 2

“If we really want to love we must learn how to forgive.” ~ Mother Teresa

Last week when we started talking about Forgiveness, we spoke of how important it was to forgive yourself and others. If you haven’t read that article{the first part of this series} I suggest you read it too, so that you can truly and very simply start understand the healing power of forgiveness.

A few years back I was also in the “I cant forgive them cause they hurt me so badly” camp. There was one such person, who had caused me a lot of pain and trauma. Life altering trauma….that I just couldn’t get myself to forgive. It was 10 years since the traumatic event, and I was beginning to feel the weight of the anger still seething inside me. It was eating away at my spiritual growth and overall well being. Here I was on the path to ‘being love’ in all areas of my life, and this deep wave of not being able to forgive this person was holding me back. I felt this inner need to just let it go. Not because what they did was forgivable in any way, but because this pain inside me was eating away at my core happiness. I realized that it was time, I stop giving them power over my happiness.

In this post I share how I forgave and healed from that past bad memory and more:

This is the Part 2 of the “Healing Through Forgiveness Series” of Articles.

Forgive to Truly Heal : Healing Through Forgiveness Series, Part 1

Forgiveness means that we choose to Love. Love MORE than we choose to hate or hurt.“Forgiveness means that we choose to Love. Love MORE than we choose to hate or hurt.”

Among all the ways of counseling I offer, I also offer family therapy to families to heal from issues that are eating away at their core happiness. In one such recent session, there was SO much negativity coming out of every member of the family, which was making the whole atmosphere very very tense. The key was ofcourse a past event that had triggered and hurt many of the members of the family. After gently proposing “forgiveness with love” of self and all those involved…and applying it, I could see the whole family calm down. But, forgiveness is a hard pill to swallow.

I often get asked, “But how can I forgive, when it hurts so much?”

At some point in time, most of us have been in this position. We recognize some pattern or behavior in ourselves or others, that we would like to change, but often feel powerless to do so. Everything we try seems to lead nowhere.

Have you been in this situation? Continue reading “Forgive to Truly Heal : Healing Through Forgiveness Series, Part 1”

Honestly, I don’t get the celebrate LOVE only on 14th February bit. Yes, its become commercially hyped as a day for love, but really isn’t everyday supposed to be Love day? I believe that Love should be celebrated everyday 🙂 Yeah I’m kinda a love junkie 😉

I live my life with a simple motto, “Spread Love everywhere you go. Let noone ever come to you without leaving happier.” ~ Mother Teresa

In order for me to walk my talk, I need to BE love in every moment of every single day. And that my dears is a highly satisfying task. It means I have to talk, walk, think, write, sleep, feel, cook, eat, clean, counsel, heal….everything with LOVE. When you are consciously aware that you have to infuse every waking and non waking moment of your life with love, a certain level of heart centered-ness comes to us. We automatically begin to operate from a space of kindness, compassion and empathy. Which in truth is what the world Needs so badly right now.
