“To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children…to leave the world a better place…to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson~

Mother Teresa and Lady Diana are just the perfect examples according to me of people who were in the true sense of the word SUCCESSFUL. Successful in creating and spreading love and happiness wherever they went and whoever they met with. The key factor I think that they both shared was they were truly compassionate souls.

Great quote. Ralph Waldo Emerson is a true genius.
Hi Jonathan,
I am glad you liked Ralph Waldo Emrsons Quote. His words are alwasy so full of wisdom.
Thanks for you lovely comment.
I love the quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson it has been one of my favorites for years. It is the most important incentive to life. I think.
xox
Darling Bunny,
Thats so true..it is like the perfect incentive to live life. Its put so simply but to be successful simply means to be more giving. Master that and i think life is all set 🙂
xoxo
We try to gauge success buy certain measurable indicators when in reality success is a state of mind. Those outward results can be influenced by events and circumstances, but a truly successful mindset is not so easily influenced.
Hi Jonathan,
Youre absolutely right..that success is certainly more a state of mind than anything external. But many times doing some external acts can lead to that inner sense of peace of mind and happiness for ourselves, and if its bringing a smile on someone elses face in the process its win-win isnt it.
Hi Zeenat,
This is one of my very favorite quotes. I love the message it portrays. On so many levels, I completely agree with all that this is saying. And I think the more we all strived toward this, the better our world would be. It just really sums up what life is about in my book… So good, always, to read this quote…
Hi Lance,
The world would certainly be a better place if all of us thought this way. What fun to go out and see only smiling faces everywhere!!!
I am so glad i found your favorite quote to my blog today. Thank you for your lovely comment always.
Hi Zeenat, I think Diana was a true inspiration, although I am not a royalist I respected Diana a lot.
Hi Steven,
I know what you mean…am not a so called royalist either. but i just cant help but notice ow these two women-Diana and Mother Teresa, inspite of all their shortcomings and personal problems always still tried their beist to smile and spread smiles everywhere they went. Now that is inspiring 🙂
Excellent post! The measure of success in life really varies from individual to individual. I feel that the flowering of one’s potential and capabilities to the fullest is true success – whether it comes into limelight or not does not really matter!
Hi Vijay,
Thats true. success is a personal things and we all measure it differently in our own eyes. For some its flowering of ones potential, for others its fulfilling a life long dream, and for yet others Like Diana and Mother teresa it was spreading happiness. I do love the quote…its just something i believe success for myself.
Your comments are always so thought provoking. Thank you.
I love this quote. Every time I read it, it reminds me just how powerful it is and where I need to be focusing my attention. I believe success is however we define it. For some, it’s winning over the business world (and that’s fine for them). For others, it’s loving as deeply and completely as possible.
Any day during which I’ve touched someone or made them smile is a good day for me.
And you, my friend, are constantly spreading love and goodness, and for that I’m grateful.
Hi Megan My Joyful Angel,
I think i pale in comparison to the constant joy youre spreading every day on your blog and on the others with your awesome comments. Somehow you know just exactly what to say to make me smile always 🙂 And your energy is just so pure and radiant that all your words give such peace. Thank you for being you 🙂
As for the quote..i think it should be our mantra to live this way. As Lance also pointed out..it would certainly make the world a better place.
Great quote and beautiful examples of those living it!
Hi Karen,
It is a beautiful quote isnt it..:)And yes Diana and Mother Teresa are just so perfect in the light of this quote.
Thank you for your lovely comment 🙂
Beautiful, Zeenat!
I find it interesting, whenever I see these two women, to consider their emotional states during the many years when they were helping others. Both were severely depressed, and seeking relief from their darkness. Turning to compassionate acts was their medicine… their light.
Can you imagine what the world would be like if everyone who was depressed turned to helping others, instead of drugs, violence or isolation for relief?
Maybe before prescribing meds, doctors could prescribe volunteerism! 😉
Hi Lisis,
Thats so true and a very great observation. Both of them had a lot of personal issues which they were trying to deal with all their lives. They dealt with it by helping others…It would certainly be a beautiful world if all the sad and depressed people in the world started helping others and voluteering their sadness and that of others away! I certainly wish our world would wake up to that idea.
The reason I chose these two women as examples for this quote was they were so different in their own beliefs but yet when they came together, they did for others. An so immersed were they in doing for others, that their own problems and pains seemed somewhat paler in comparison to the plight they mustve seen all around the world.
I am so against the pill popping cultrue we have become. I prefer natural and non intrusive methods whcih can be just as effective.
Hi Zeenat! Love this quote! It says what really matters doesn’t it? We can waste a lot of time and energy on “other stuff”! Thank you for this today. It’s a wonderful tool for over all focus.
Hugs
SuZen
Hi Suzen,
I love this quote too 🙂 Other stuff always does somehow get int he way….but this quote tell us just what matters….
Glad you loved it too.
Hugs xoxo
I think that quote must be my ALL-TIME favorite! Yes. A lovely reminder to read it today, thanks.
HI Jannie,
Wow…really your favorite 🙂
Am glad i could remind you of this wonderful quote again.
I couldn’t agree more. Perhaps, the problem in the Western world has been trying to get successful without knowing at what we should be successful. The day we realize that shared happiness is greater than a solitary mansion, that day we would have healed the world.
Hi Miguel,
You say it with so much conviction….i love it. The day we realize that shared hapiness is greater than a solitary mansion…we will have healed the world!! WOW WOW WOW….i couldnt have said it any better than that for sure 🙂
Thank you for your lovely insight.
Zeenat, excellent quote! Ralph Waldo Emerson was a great thinker. Thanks so MUCH for your inspirational blog! 🙂
Hi Stephen,
Emerson certainly had a way with words. He always manages to say so much in so little words. Glad you liked it.:)
Thank you for your compliments 🙂
Hi Zeenat,
I LOVE this quote. It’s how I strive to live. How I want to leave this world – a better place.
I agree with your choices for two ladies who were living examples of this. Princess Diana’s and Mother Teresa’s work will forever be remembered.
Great inspirational quote thanks for sharing
Nice post here it’s really great quote
Oh aren’t they a wonderful sight together and it is such a great way to show that how you look and who you are got nothing to do with who you are being.
Zeenat, what a neat reminder of what is important and why some of us do not care much about appearances.
I read that you too do not care much about clothing.
Hugs to you, Wilma
Hi Zeenat .. it’s great that those two women did so much for the poor, ill, distressed and just plain desperate – by highlighting their woes or situation to those of us in wealthier places. Are we wealthier – probably not in the cares of the world way .. poor, humble people have a truly wonderful way of being happy with their lot: we could learn from them. Accept where we’re at and make the best of things – benefiting others in some way is more important.
I too love that quote .. thanks a good thing for me today –

Hi Zeenat,
This is one of my favorite quotes and the lives of Princess Diana and Mother Theresa are great examples. It is interesting that both passed away days apart. I will never forget that because so much focus was on Diana and not Mother Theresa. That said, both are considered to be women who did what they could to make the world better. We all could learn from them on some level. 🙂
