The 3-Minute Shower Reset-21 Days to Inner Peace~ Book Review& Author Interview

I’m always exploring ways to bring mindfulness and healing into everyday life, beyond the meditation cushion, beyond the therapy room, into the heart of daily routines. Jenny Garufi’s new book, The 3-Minute Shower Reset – 21 Days to Inner Peace, is a beautiful example of how small, intentional moments can become portals to transformation.

From the very first pages, I felt a sense of calm wash over me (no pun intended). Jenny invites readers to view their daily shower not as a mundane task, but as a sacred space for renewal—a time to reconnect with body, mind, and spirit. In just three minutes, she offers mindfulness exercises that help release stress, quiet the inner chatter, and awaken a deeper sense of presence.

What I love most is the simplicity. There’s no pressure to “get it right.” Instead, Jenny reminds us that healing doesn’t always require hours of meditation or elaborate rituals. Sometimes, it’s as simple as feeling the water on your skin, breathing with intention, and remembering that you are here, now.

As someone who works with clients on integrating self-awareness into daily life, I found this approach both therapeutic and deeply practical. These three-minute resets can easily become micro-moments of grounding, a way to regulate the nervous system, shift emotional energy, and gently rewire old patterns of stress and disconnection.

Jenny’s voice throughout the book is compassionate and authentic. She’s not writing from theory but from experience—having walked through her own healing journey and emerged with tools that truly work. You can feel that sincerity in every line.

This isn’t just a book about showers. It’s a guide to remembering who you are beneath the noise and rush of daily living. It’s about turning an ordinary act into an extraordinary opportunity for peace.

If you’ve been longing for a simple, nurturing way to bring more mindfulness into your life, but have struggled to find the time, The 3-Minute Shower Reset might just be the perfect place to start. Three minutes a day. One breath. One drop of awareness at a time.

And now I had the immense pleasure of picking Jenny’s brain on her writing process and her intentions for her book…Was such a wonderful interview. Enjoy!

Author Interview with Jenny Garufi Author of The 3-Minute Shower Reset

Me: What inspired you to write the 3 Minute Shower Reset?

Jenny: It’s interesting… after healing myself of physical illness 20 years ago, I often shared in my workshops that there are three of the most powerful times to set intentions or practice gratitude: when we wake up, when we fall asleep, and in the shower. Water has always been my “go-to” for peace—whether by the ocean, a lake, or simply being in the shower or bath. After my mom passed five years ago, I began a year-long program studying shamanism, which deepened my connection with water. One day, in the shower, I “heard” that I should share some of the exercises I do while in water. It felt fun, easy, and like a beautiful way to bring my work to a wider audience. The idea also came through for three books—this one focusing on the mind in mindfulness, the second on the body, and the third on how the mind and spirit work together. Every time I sat down to write, the words flowed like water—never once did I experience writer’s block, which confirmed that it was truly time for these books to be shared!

Me: I love that you dedicated the book to “recovering perfectionists and people pleasers”. What particular benefit would those recovering from perfectionism and people pleasing from your book?

Jenny: So often, we get caught up in the “shoulds.” I should do this because it’s expected of me. I should do that because it needs to get done. Those “shoulds” add layers of guilt and judgment. And boy, I was great at that for many years—okay, decades! When we begin to stay present, cultivate self-love, and focus on what we really want, we tap into our inner power. We stop worrying about what others, or even our own unrealistic expectations say we should do and instead begin living from authenticity. This takes mindfulness. It takes awareness of where our thoughts are. These exercises help you focus on what
you’re grateful for, what brings you joy, and what excites you about the day ahead. When we lovingly turn that focus inward, life begins to flow with greater ease. We wake up happier and more peaceful—it’s
such a beautiful way to start the day!

Me: Rumi is one of my all-time favorite spiritual guide, poet, and writer…and as I read through your book, Exercise #16 resonated with me deeply because of his poem “The Guest House”…Please share something about the inspiration and thought process behind this particular exercise.

Jenny: I love Rumi too! Zeenat, as a therapist, you know firsthand the power of emotions. I wish they taught this in schools. Our emotions are such powerful indicators of how we’re truly feeling and an opportunity to
show up for ourselves. But often, we get swept up in them, spiraling down the rabbit hole rather than simply acknowledging them. This exercise helps readers identify the exact emotion they’re feeling rather
than using general terms like “happy” or “sad.” It then invites them to show up for themselves with a supportive emotion they’ve previously embodied. We often do this for others but rarely for ourselves. When we make it a habit to check in and lovingly support our own emotions, it deepens our sense of inner power and self-trust.

Me: How long did it take you to write this book?

Jenny: Interesting question and not such a straightforward one! I released the first version of this book through self-publishing last year. In January of this year, I began working with a publishing agency; TSPA, and with
their guidance, I added about 10,000 words, making the book more personal and polished. The actual writing flowed easily; every time I sat down, the words came through. But overall, from start to final version, it was about a year and a half of writing, editing, and refining.

Me: Which three exercises and practices that you have shared in the book are your favorite and why?

Jenny: Oh boy, that’s a hard one! I love gratitude, which is why there are ten exercises on it. Can I count that as one? Gratitude is essential for well-being. I often encourage my clients to practice gratitude for themselves as well as for loved ones. Even after 20 years of teaching self-love and gratitude, I still find it a bit uncomfortable to express gratitude for myself, which tells me it’s exactly where the work is! The
second would be the emotion exercise you mentioned, it’s a powerful way to check in and support ourselves emotionally. The third is the exercise on washing pain and stress down the drain. Inviting the element of water to help release what no longer serves us is incredibly powerful and cleansing.

Me: Who will benefit the most from reading The 3-Minute Shower Reset?

Jenny: I truly feel that if your life isn’t 100% aligned, whether in relationships, finances, health, or emotional well-being, you’ll benefit from this book. In this world of constant distractions, we all need those small pauses
to go inward. When we learn to show up for ourselves, we naturally show up for our loved ones and the world in a much more grounded, powerful way.

  1. Hi ZeenatI enjoyed reading this and you mention ‘listening’ to the book in your article. When I look to see if there is an audio book, I cannot find it. Any suggestions??I am making good progress here, sleep still elusive but I got my Diploma certificate in the post today and my spirit feels uplifted and forever changed. I hope you and the family are well. Best wishes  Martha Mary BrophyThe Wellness Wheel+44 (0) 7967 134348support@marthamary.orgwww.marthamary.org
