5 Fun Quick Fix De-Stress Tips

How do you handle sudden pop-out-of-the-box stress?

We all have our share of worries and stress. Some stem from big issues and some from really really small issues. If you say you don’t worry or stress at all, I might believe you, but I don’t think you will believe yourself the next time you mutter foul language under your breath in traffic or the next time your child throws a tantrum and you scream.

See, I told you, we all have stress, me included. But the good news is we CAN handle it. I wrote a while back about Stress in which I shared ways on how you can stress less. In a gist, the ways included, meditation, breathing techniques and many more ways which included lifestyle changes as well. Now all these methods work like a charm. But, what happens when you have an interview in one hour and you are freaking out? What happens when you have a major deal to land in the next 15 minutes and you are sweating profusely? What do you do to de-stress in that short span of time?

Try This:

5 Fun Quick Fix Tips to De-Stress

1. Laugh On-

“Laughter is an instant vacation.”ย  ~Milton Berle

Who doesnt love a great belly laugh?? I know I do ๐Ÿ™‚ Somehow a good laugh seems to ease the stress dramatically and instantly. The next time you are stressing try thinking of a funny joke, a funny event that happened recently, or just picture the person standing next to you in a clown outfit. Whatever tickles your funny bone. I personally love to simply visualize everyones head as a huge bright yellow sunflower. It gets me to smile everytime ๐Ÿ™‚ Other ways are maybe saving a joke or a funny clip in your mobile phone for a quick giggle reference ๐Ÿ™‚

2. Play On

โ€œI still get wildly enthusiastic about little things… I play with leaves. I skip down the street and run against the wind.โ€ Leo F. Buscaglia

I love love love games. Computer games, board games, who stole the cookie games with kids, running around the tress, catching butterflies, playing with the cat who passes my way….Why? Cause they help me unwind quickly. Usually in a stressful situation, I look around me and most often find something to play with. It might be a child, it might be a pet, it might be the magazine in your hand. Anything can lead to play, if you want it to. And if you still cant think of anything to play with around you then, take out your mobile phone and play a game in it. Simple play Instant Smiles ๐Ÿ™‚

3. Choc On

โ€œResearchers have discovered that chocolate produces some of the same reactions in the brain as marijuana. The researchers also discovered other similarities between the two but can’t remember what they are.โ€ Matt LauerAlright

I have to admit, I always always carry a bar of dark chocolate around in my handbag. Its my instant fix to all things negative. Its my magic wonder feel good drug. I don’t use it often, but I like the idea of knowing that this magic wonder is in my reach anytime, just waiting to diffuse me of all things bad and negative. Next time you are freaking out, pop in a piece and melt that stress away. Oh and don’t forget to wipe your hands and mouth after ๐Ÿ˜‰

4. Dream On

โ€œPractical people would be more practical if they would take a little more time for dreaming.โ€

I’m a dreamer. I dream of rainbows and butterflies, of world peace and happiness. I dream of my biggest dreams with eyes wide open. It brings that dream to reality. Whenever I am upset or stressed, I almost always think of my big big dreams with such vivid colors and perfect detail, I can actually feel the bliss of it coming true. Right there in that moment, all my stress vanishes. Try it. Its your very own personal Dream Dvd ๐Ÿ™‚

5. Hug On

โ€œI will not play tug o’ war. I’d rather play hug o’ war. Where everyone hugs instead of tugs, Where everyone giggles and rolls on the rug, Where everyone kisses, and everyone grins, and everyone cuddles, and everyone wins.โ€ Shel Silverstein

Nothing and I mean nothing can make me feel as good as a hug can. Isn’t it awesome that the one giving the hug and the one receiving the hug both love it. Its an instant feel good booster. Its possible that you don’t have any friends around you can hug, or any family when you are standing in line or in traffic or waiting to get into a major meeting…thats OK, hug yourself! Just wrap your arm around and squeeze. Try it right now….It works wonders ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Zeenat,
Well….this was so FUN to read!! In fact, I think just reading this…one’s stress level will instantly go down!

Carrying chocolate with me, though!! No…that just won’t work. It won’t, because I don’t know if I have enough will power to not eat it all at once!!!

Big hugs, lots of laughs, some playtime, dreams, and a tasty chocolate bar!!!
    Lance
    (sounds like a winning combination!!)

    1. HI Lance,

  2. Well I almost instantly started laughing when I started imagining my deskmate dressed as a clown. This is so funny – I bookmarked your page to my stress relive medicine cupboard:)

    1. HI Ovidiu,
Well..see…I knew the clown thing works…it works for me..so it has got to work for you too ๐Ÿ™‚
Ohh and what is this ‘stress relive medicine cupboard’ ?? I’m so so curious….
Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. Appreciate you and your thoughts.
      Much love~

      1. Well the medicine cupboard is not really something tangible. It`s more of a mental construct in which I put the happy generating things such as great jokes, some interesting relaxing music, memories from childhood or just any happy memories. It`s basically a place of my own in my head that I access whenever I need to stress relieve or when i need to snap out of a sad mode etc. In reality it`s transposed into some bookmarks with pages that contain the above mentioned “medicine for the soul”:)
Hope I made myself useful and understood.

may love be with us and shine upon us at all times:) if that won`t work i`ll stick to chocolate and icecream..lol

        1. You and me both….but I’m pretty sure calorie free Love will shine on us always. Giving chocolate & ice cream a run hmm ๐Ÿ™‚
And that closet of all things lovely in your mind..is a magnificent idea. I love it. Thank you fro sharing ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Oh my gosh, Zeenat, if I carried chocolate around with me chances are I would weigh 30 pounds more. (smile) It’s best if I stick with laughter to de-stress, because indeed, that always cuts through tension. I have some friends who are GREAT at getting me to laugh, and it’s just easy around them. Afterward I wonder, “What was I stressed about again?” Works every time.

Big hug to you & so much love!

    1. HI My Joyful Angel,
I know what you mean ๐Ÿ˜‰ But I have developed an acute sense of calories..so my hands don’t go there unless in dire circumstances ๐Ÿ™‚ Than I skim a meal after… ๐Ÿ˜‰
But nothing beats loving friends..giggling away …I have a few friends like that too. We can just start giggling for no reason at all ๐Ÿ™‚
Lots of love to you too my dearest ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Zeenat — This is a great post. I love how it starts with laughter. That’s definitely high on my list as de-stresser. If I can get myself laughing, I immediately calm down. Humor is one of my top strengths and I do use it often to help me in difficult times.

I also loved all the other suggestions and thanks for the Shel Silverstein quote. I love his books and I didn’t remember that quote, but it’s a great one. Given my history, it’s taken me many years to learn to enjoy hugs. Fortunately, the man I’m with gives great hugs. I always feel so much better after one of his hugs.

    I enjoyed my visit today…thanks:~)

    1. Hi Sara,
That man of yours sounds like an awesome gift for you. Tell him HI and tell him to shower you with more such hugs everytime..and you can reciprocate too ๐Ÿ˜‰
Thank you for your awesome comment here. Lovely to see you here.
      Much Love~

    1. Hi Allnaturalliving,

Glad you liked this post and even happier to see you here…your comments are highly appreciated.
      Much Love~

  5. Hi Z:
Yea for chocolate! No wonder my stress level is low:)
For me, it’s breath..take a deep cleansing breath..allows me to center..then I may follow with laughter, perspective, music, friendship, dancing or coloring…

    1. Hi Joy,
Another choc on Gal! Yippee… ๐Ÿ™‚
And deep breathing..now thats one of my favs too. It simply works wonders. My other fav de-stress way is dancing with my little girl too…she on the table..me on the floor… ๐Ÿ™‚
      Much Love~

  6. Zeenat, big big laughing, dreaming, playing, chocolate hugs from Jannie!!!!!

That line about the marijuana and not being able to remember what the results were CRACKED me up, bigtime!

It is so great to have touched base with your positive energy again, Zeenat

Makes me feel so great to be here!

(And you know what, but this is our secret… even Funsters need the reminder to laugh. Kids CAN test your patience, that’s for sure!!)

    xoxo

  7. Hello Zeenat,

This article was a joy to read! So much great advice here, advice that a person can really use. I use humor A LOT in my life (maybe I’m a funster too?) and I also use my “awake dreams” to ground me when I feel the stress building.

Whichever method works, I think an important part of the de-stress process is to recognize the early signs, and they’re always there, of stress. Once you’re aware, employ one of these methods and Voila! Bye bye stress.

Oh, and I must confess to the dark chocolate method. I don’t use it often, but Oh Yeah……

    1. Hey Keith Fellow chocolate lover,
I am so glad you liked this joyful post ๐Ÿ™‚
You know,,,who said getting over stress has to be boring na…we can have fun and de stress too ๐Ÿ™‚
And you are absolutely right…the sooner we can recognize the signs of stress the easier it is to handle.
      Much love~

  8. Zeenat, de-stressing has never been easy for me but yoga helps. My Oolong tea during the day and especially the steeping process helps de-stress me. Going into my balcony and looking at my peppers growing de-stresses me and most of all, calling or talking to my hubby! Of course it wouldn’t kill me to try your fabulous ideas here too ;)! Thank you!

    1. Hi Farnoosh,
You have some lovely ways to de stress. You know each person is different..and so each have their own special way to cope or de stress. I love yoga too ๐Ÿ™‚ And my hubby can be mr. clown sometimes…so that helps big time ๐Ÿ™‚
Go give some of these tips a try….you might find something you can quickly use ๐Ÿ™‚
      Much Love~

  9. Dearest Z, This is just sooooooo like YOU. These are all ways that YOU are. I love this post. Although it brought tears to my eyes, they are those deeply sweet and joyous kind of tears. The photos you chose for this are just precious. especially the “Choc on” and the Hug on”. Oh my gosh, it doesn’t get any dearer than that. After reading this I felt like I had felt YOU. This post is a personification of YOU. What is even more beautiful is that you REALLY DO live this. I hope one day I get to give you a hug. For now, I am sending you such a warm, compassionate, loving hug. You touch me deeply. SO MUCH love to you dear sweet soul sister. Robin PS You confirm more for me than you may know. You are just soooooooo ALIVE.

    1. Oh Robin, You make me jump for joy with your loving words. You see more in me..than I see in myself..and that ot me is a gift. Thank you for being you.and for loving me so. I love you so much too ๐Ÿ™‚
And lots of love and hugs coming your way too.
Wish we can meet and actually hug one day…that would be the day!
You are life personified dear soul sister. ~

  10. Hi Zeenat!

It is so nice to be able to comment again! I love what you have done with your site and it is obvious that you write from the heart which is such a gift to your readers.

Your list of suggestions as to how de-stress was awesome. For me, I head to the beach and that immediately re-centers me. Something about the ocean just reminds me to put everything in perspective and to remember that truly my so called “problems” are really tiny in comparison to the vastness of the ocean.

I also love hugs too. Nothing is better than getting a big hug from someone you love. Chocolate rocks too!

    Love and blessings to you!

  12. Hi Zeenat

    Wonderful tips!

As this is moving weekend (gosh, I feel like we have been moving all summer ๐Ÿ˜‰ for us, stress can definitely set in, in times like these if we allow it. And as organized as everything can be, as you point out, unexpected things can come about.

My favorite way of dealing with any things like that which may come up, is your tip too – to laugh about it, when we look at the bigger picture of things, things are never as bad as they seem. And I will remember to take regular “hug breaks” with Markus – that will keep us on track as to what really is important about it all ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you for this at such a perfect time!

Wow, I loved reading this!! I’m still young..i just turned 16 but I have alot of stress and my head feels like it’s about to burst when something destroys my peace.! I can hold my anger in but it just comes out as tears instead..but now that I read this,
I love the hugging part.! I like to hug myself and my teddy bear ^_^

I also hate how stress can give you such bad wrinkles my mom used to say xD
Thankyou so much for sharing! Oh and another way I used to handle stress was closing my eyes, leave my mind completely blank and start counting to 10. When I open them my problems seem boring and it feels like garbage to me I have to throw it out before it starts to make more mess
