How to be YOU no matter what-7 simple tips

Being you is not always the easiest thing to be. Believe me I have had a hard time in the past just being me until I found out who I was.

Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else. ~Judy Garland

Being YOU means to celebrate your individuality – learning to express yourself and be happy with who you are. For some  it’s learning to love yourself, for others, it’s not hiding who you are or changing things about you to fit in.

How to be YOU no matter what-7 simple tips

Let me share with you 7 tips that will help you to be the best version of yourself, no matter what:

1} How do you define yourself:
Your primary goal should be to know, understand and accept yourself. Take out time to contemplate on your life’s choices. Try to think about what kind of things you would or wouldn’t like to do, and act accordingly; finding out through trial and error helps more than you know. Work on accepting mistakes and choices you’ve made; they’re done and in the past, so there is no use crying over spilled milk.

2} Lets not worry about others perceptions:
It’s impossible to be yourself when you’re caught up in wondering “Do they like me? Does she think I’m fat? Do they think I’m smart?” To be yourself, you’ve got to let go of these concerns and just let your behavior flow. What you think and know of yourself is important not what others think of you. Don’t wear different masks to please different people….you will ultimately lose yourself. Be you, be authentic without being rude and self-indulgent.

3} Focus on Being Honest and Open:
We’re all imperfect, evolving, learning human beings. If there are aspects of yourself you are uncomfortable with— and you feel that you have to hide those parts of you, physically or emotionally — then you have to come to terms with that and learn to convert your so-called flaws into positive quirks. Be honest with yourself, but don’t beat yourself up; apply this philosophy to others, as well. There is a difference between being critical and being honest; learn to watch the way you say things to yourself and others when being honest.

4} Please Relax and laugh a bit:
Stop worrying about the worst, especially in social situations. So what if you fall flat on your face? Or have candy stuck on your hair? Learn to laugh at yourself both when it happens and afterwards. Turn it into a fun story that you can share with friends & family. It makes you feel more at ease with yourself. Relax, breathe and enjoy each experience as it comes.

5} Be your authentic self:
Develop and express your authenticity. Whether it’s your sense of style, or even your manner of speaking, if your preferred way of doing something strays from the rest of the crowd, then be proud of it. Follow your own style. The common thing a lot of people do is copy others actions because it seems like the better route to fit in, but really its the best way to lose yourself in the crowd.

6}Acceptance is key:
Accept that sometimes you are really fun to be with and sometimes you just might want to be left alone. Its ok. Accept what your heart tells and do that. People might raise eyebrows, but as long as you can say “Hey, that’s just me being ME” (without being obnoxious) and leave it at that, people will ultimately respect you for it, and you’ll respect yourself.

7}Believe in You:
When we constantly try to be like someone else, how can we be happy? Be yourself and show the world you’re proud of the way you are! You deserve to be your own best friend, so start trying to figure out how you can do that. If you had to spend the day with yourself, which version of YOU would you spend it with? Work on this best version. Believe in this YOU and use that as your starting point. Lovingly accept yourself as you are now.

Being different, Being YOU is absolutely beautiful!

We are all born with unique DNA, unique finger-prints and unique faces. Why should our personality then be anything else?

“All the knowledge I possess everyone else can acquire, but my heart is all my own.”  ~Goethe

Listen to your heart.
Its your best guide and confidant. Your heart is unique & one of a kind. It will help you sense how to be the best you at all times, no matter what. Just relax and let your heart do its job.

  1. Hi Zeenat,

That is a great list! One thing that is a good exercise for people who are worried about what other people think is be aware of their own opinions.

Many who are worried about what others think ignore their own opinions and thoughts and even get to the point that they don’t know what their own opinions are.

    Thanks,
    Stacy

  4. Hi beauty filled Z,
It has taken me a lifetime to learn to “be” me..and now I love my self and would rather be me than anyone else..:)
What that has enabled me to do is to share pure and golden in a generous manner straight from my heart because there aren’t any protective layers around it..and the joy from *that* creates a magical element in my life..,
There was a time I wanted to be anyone *but* me, and life was okay but limited to quite small..now I believe and teach that life is as grand as we allow it to be..
Thank you for your tips..excellent insight, as always..thank you for shining as brightly as you do..makes my heart smile each time I visit..

    1. Hi Joy,
You and me both… it took me so long to be me too. To come out of the shadows of what i was supposed to be…to becoming comfortable in my skin has been a journey. But an amazing journey…that teaches so much.
Life is certainly grand now 🙂

I had to come out the lurker mode to say hello 🙂 I like this simple tips, it should be intuitive but many of us could reminder to how to be ourselves again. We get so many noise from media and expert, I think many times, if we only listened to our own gut feelings, we would know who we are.

    Preeti

    1. Hi Preeti,
Listening to our heart is the best and most effective way to remain and be authentically You. The best part, we all have it within us..but somehow forget to tap into this power…

  9. Hi Zeenat,

I’m glad I met you via the Face-Off. Your blog is totally amazing. I enjoyed this article immensely. I’ve been struggling with a few things and after reading this article..especially your last line about our DNA and being unique..it really helped me to see things in a whole new light, so thank you! 😉

I remain me by not caring what others think, say or do. Now, when I was younger, I was very concerned about what others thought and said about me, but now that I’m older and wiser, I’m myself more than ever. Hey, I wear my hair in it’s natural state without any chemical alterations, even though most find it strange, which is going against the grain, but hey, I gotta be me, who else can do it better. 😉

    Great post and well written!

    Take care,

    Evelyn

    1. HI Evelyn,
Awesome to see you here! And girl…Being YOU is IN and awesome. Let those hair roam free…you look gorgeous and so beautifully authentic in them.
And you are right…you are YOU…the best YOU…and noone can be that ever ever ever!
Thank you for stopping by and sharing your beautiful thoughts here.

  10. Hi Zeenat,

“What you think and know of yourself is important not what others think of you.” Perfect Advice!

As has been said before other people’s opinion of us is none of our business. Many spend their life time seeking approval, not realizing the moment they started breathing they already received approval from a Higher Power.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful insight 🙂

    Ryan

    1. HI Ryan,
Seeking approval oh…you say it brilliantly…No-one needs to approve our existence…cause the major Higher Power has already said “go”….Superbly put!
Thank you for stopping by and sharing your Superb thoughts.

  12. This is the most difficult task in my life. I am still struggling with it. But you know what, even in my short victories to be myself, I always feel comfortable and joy.
“Let Go” and “Believe” both are a tough job, I am still trying to get it going. Effort itself is so beautiful, result has to be better.
Its just so satisfying and enjoyable, when I am just be myself. People seem to get worried at first glance, but in the long run, it pays off. The same people come back to you, if one is just being the self rather fitting in someone else’s self.
Thanks for the post, that confirms I am going right.

    1. HI Saumya,
You sure are going right! Being you is always amazing. It might like you said “People seem to get worried at first glance..”but there is no better way to live a happy and meaningful life.
Glad you liked this post and thank you for stopping by and sharing your beautiful thoughts.
      Much Love~

  13. I love this Being different, Being YOU is absolutely beautiful! and no2 and 6 & 7 are close to my heart and what I seem to continually struggle with

    Love & hugs
    Suzie

    1. HI Suzie,
Its hard for me to think you struggle at all…cause you are always so full of life and love. You shine brilliantly, and all that is cause you are so authentically YOU.
Thank you fro stopping by and sharing your shiny thoughts.
      Much love~

  14. Great fantastic post to send to a few of my friends, but I don’t think I have the courage ;)! Thank you dear Zeenat…I try to be the most perfect “imperfect human being” I can be and honestly, who else is better qualified to be you than you – leave it up to no one. Define and love and express the you that is unique because no two individuals are the same in this world – until they try to copycat each other!

    1. HI Farnoosh,
Celebrating our imperfections is what makes us authentic na.. 🙂
And the copy cats cant last long…they eventually get back to being themselves…but in all reality go back to not knowing who they were in the first place.
      Glad you liked this 🙂
      Much love~

    1. HI Stephen,
Lovely to see your smile here today ! 🙂

  15. Hi Zeenat,

This is such excellent advice. I think it’s so important to both accept yourself and learn to relax and laugh at yourself a bit. Authenticity is so key to finding happiness and you really show us the way step by step in this guide. Thanks for the fabulous post.

    1. Hi Sandra,
I’m happy you liked these tips.
My personal fav is laughing at yourself..it relaxes me to be ME every time.

  18. I love these tips – thank you! No.1..how do I define myself – interestingly I’ve been reflecting on this one very recently – as really it is something that changes as we grow and develop. E.g. how I defined myself 5 years ago is different to how I define myself now.

    1. Hi Valeri,
Lovely to read your beautiful thoughts here. I am glad the ‘define yourself’ point is something you have been thinking about. Sometimes its best to let that definition flow and grow with your own being. We are constantly evolving….hence so is our own personal definition. But remember when focusing on your core definition, the principles don’t change.
Thank you for your lovely comment.
      Much love~

  19. Hello Zeenat, I’m so glad I found you via Arvind’s Thanksgiving post.
It’s so hard to not mind what others think of us, isn’t it. I guess the only person’s approval we need is our own but that’s easy to say and not so easy to do.
I’m trying to be ‘me’ authentically on my blog. There’s no point in trying to copy others, just take heir advice and help.
Thanks for these insights. You’ve made me think!

  20. Hi Zeenat,

I love your post and your blog. I am glad I found you via Arvind’s blog.
The key for me is to be authentic, stick to my own beliefs and values no matter what others think and say.
    Thanks for your wisdom.

  21. Hi Zeenat,

    Thanks for your wisdom.

  22. Hi Zeenat**

Authenticity….so admired in others and yet sometimes so hard to fulfill in ourselves…Why is there such a fear of being ourselves? Ultimately we can only be ourselves!

Thanx for great tips that we should all live by…I especially liked the “please relax and laugh a bit” because I think humor goes a long way in this life…and we should all be able to laugh at ourselves(in a positive, healthy way of course!) …it takes the edge off of much in life* 🙂

Thanks for sharing your insights !
    Much love,
    Claudia

    1. HI Claudia,
So awesome to see you here 🙂
You are so right….ultimately we can ONLY be ourself. We might try to ape others for a while, but then our core nature finally does come out.
Thank you for your lovely comment here and its lovey to connect with you. Hope to see you here again 🙂
      Much Love~

    Zeenat,
I found this post to be very enlightening. I have come to realize that this is something I need to do. I have always said I just want to be me and not be one to just fit in. It is a matter of becoming comfortable in your own skin. Thanks for this post, I found it at a time when it was much needed and apprecited.
