Do you know what your true passion is? This is one question more than 75% of the world population cannot answer, or rather don’t know the answer to. Almost everyone seems to not be doing what they were meant to do. Its shocking because doing what we really love is absolutely necessary if we want to be truly happy and content. Maybe this is why there is so much unhappiness going on in and around us, people just aren’t doing what they are here on Earth for. Knowing your true passion is simpler than it seems.
For some, yes it does come naturally, but most of the time, you have to ask yourself some questions to point exactly what you were born to do.
This is the Third Part of the “KNOW Your True Self Series” of Articles. You will find more details of this life altering series at the end of this article.
Here are a few questions that can help you in Knowing your true passion thereby helping to know your true self:
1}What makes you smile so so wide? What makes you happy?
It could be an event. It could be a topic. It could be a particular habit of yours. It could even be a hobby. It could be something as trivial as a chore. There has got to be something that makes your whole being happy to the point of bliss. Whatever it is that makes you so happy, is or atleast is part of your truest passion. Happiness comes to those who are truly content and contentment comes to those who Know their passion. Just follow the breadcrumbs that make you happy. Put it all together…and you are on the right track.
2}What would you do without worrying about money? What is that one thing you would do for FREE?
The whole world runs on money- you and me both know that. But still, in this money money world, there are things people do just for the sheer pleasure of doing. Take for example a painter- he paints, he creates, he goes nights without sleep, and sometimes months without proper food, but he still paints. Why? Cause it’s his passion. He does it not for money, he does it for his own satisfaction and contentment. What is it that you would do without worrying about the momentary gains? There in lies your true passion. Doing what you have a passion for brings out your best, and this leads to greatness. Do you think that the most successful people in the world got to where they are because they wanted to get rich? So think about something that you would just love to do, even if you were not getting paid. Think about something that you look forward to do, something that you wish you could do all the time.
3}What do you love to think & talk about?
Sometimes, even without being aware of it, we talk and think about things we are passionate about. Pay attention to your thoughts, to your conversations. Notice a pattern in them. What topic makes you talk non stop. What topic makes you think so far ahead, you didn’t even know that “ahead” existed? In this pattern you will find your passion. A very good way to figure this out, is to ask your friends and family as to what they think you like to talk about the most. Ask them what topic makes your eyes brighten up, and changes your entire behavior. Their answers will be surprising to you. Try it out, it’s a very insightful exercise, and it can bring you closer to figuring out your true passion.
4}What would you regret on your death bed?
Alright, this question might be a bit morbid, but one which we truly need to ask our-self. We all have these dreams, and somehow, life pushes us in another direction. The next thing we know, we are far from those dreams we used to have. If you were at the end of your life, what would you regret not having pursued? What would you have liked to do, that you didn’t get a chance to? There is nothing worse than arriving at the end of the journey and having regret. This is why finding your passion, and following it is so important. Live your life so that you do not have regrets. Try everything you want to. Your passion will emerge forth.
5} What did you love to do as a child?
Look to the past, present, and future for clues to your passion. Search for clues to uncover your passion. Remember your childhood and any activities that excited or intrigued you. You may have abandoned them only because you thought it was impractical, not because you lost your passion for them. Then examine the present. Consider the things you look forward to from day to day–the aspects of your work you enjoy or the activities or thoughts in your life you really love. Finally, look to the future. Make a list of the things you dream of, and take time to think about what they mean to you now. Once you have done this, look for connections between the ideas that have emerged.
Once you have answered these questions, I believe you WILL know your passion. Knowing your true passion is the third and most crucial step in knowing your true self. With this knowledge of self you can truly conquer the world. Success in all its glory can be yours….BUT BUT BUT…you also need to hone this passion.
The Simplest Way to Hone your Passion- the 3 P’s:
“Your Passion is like a precious diamond…just waiting to shine.”~Z
Honing means to polish or to remove the bad and keep the good. Its kind of like the process of polishing a diamond. The diamond goes through so many stages of cleaning and cutting before it truly shines. Your passion is much like a diamond. So precious. Its the key to your happiness, your success, your complete and total contentment. Hence, the best way to hone your passion is to keep it alive. It might not give you monetary satisfaction right now, that doesn’t mean you need to give up. Keep at it. Do You think Shakespeare’s first literary work was a super duper success? Do you think the first movie James Cameron{Maker of Titanic & Avatar} made was an over night success? No, ofcourse not.
It takes 3 P’s to truly hone your passion and make it shine:
~Practice~Patience~Persistence~
Now that you know your passion and also know how to hone it, its time for you to break free and BE Yourself. Your confidence will come up, your level of happiness and contentment will come up as well. Life will be beautiful.
Stay Tuned-This Sunday we will discuss further, clarify and shed light on the 3 P’s: Know Your True Self- The 3 P’s of Success&Happiness.

Hello Zeenat!
I’m happy you’ve included this concept in with your Know Your True Self Series, because it is one of the most important keys to liveing a joy-filled life.
You know, it’s amazing that so many ( I was such a person) that live each day without thinking of their passiom, or what it may be. This question “What is your passion?” seems simple at first but once one goes deeper, they will discover it’s many implications.
I am completely convinced that each person has something that this world needs. This something will manifest itself in the heart of an individual as their passion. Neglecting this important subject is to neglect one’s self, and leaves the world lacking.
Zeenat, it is a beautiful thing to be in tune with the Universe isn’t it? You certainly are…
Thank you Zeenat!
Hi Zeenat,
This a really insightful post on the topic of passions! You’ve given a lot of really great points to think about, guiding people in the direction of finding their true passion.
The question that resonates the most with me is: what would I do if I didn’t have to worry about money? That one really got me thinking, especially in this economy when so many people have to cut back, pay more and receive less.
My family and helping others is my passion. I would love to be able to devote more time and more energy toward both. Most of my goals are geared toward being able to that.

Nice article. It is good for the worldly happiness and contentment. Spiritually things are different. Constant struggle and pain, dissatisfaction with the worldly needs desires and wants and various other stuff determines how well entrenched you are in spiritual. I consider the 3D’s as important requisite for spiritual bliss-dispassion, detachment and discrimination between the real and the unreal. Thank you Zeenat for such nice writings. God bless you.
Hi Krsnaknows,
I like your approach. I agree with you spiritually things are different…but not that much. When you truly know your passion, you then dont work for money. Te monetary gain is the farthest o your mind. Hence, it paves the way for selflessness and spiritual growth.
Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing your wonderful thoughts.
Much love~
