Affirmations to Carry You Through Difficult Times

“I want to do more than just survive, I want to thrive.”

That is THE affirmation that’s helped me make sense of my grief and my life. It’s how I choose to show up day after day in life, even after all that I have been through.

Some days I am strong and resilient. I feel like I can conquer the world. But then, there are those days, though, when it takes all my strength just to get out of bed in the morning. I’ve known many of those days, as I am sure you have too.

These affirmations are for those difficult times. They can be used on easier days too.

Being human isn’t always easy, but we DO have the beautiful gift of choice.

One thing I’ve learned after the most traumatic event of my life (my younger brother’s car accident), is that I have the right to choose how I show up going forward. It took me nearly a decade to claim that right. I will not give that power away.

The thoughts and words we choose to define our lives with are part of how we then show up in life.

Openly spoken, or in private, we are storytelling through affirmations – what we tell ourselves and what we tell others, all the time.

The words you tell yourself in the privacy of your own mind influence your decisions and the behaviors you make habitual in your everyday life.

What you tell others reaffirms how you perceive the world and your place in it.

What you think and how you think daily, it matters. Your life starts to unfold from there.

Those who have been reading this blog, know my absolute love for affirmations.

Over the course of my life, I have created this list of self-affirming statements that have helped me fully embrace and inhabit myself and my life experiences. They have given me the courage to not hide but instead come forth freely with authenticity.

Statements like these offer positive reassurance, a sense of stability and empowerment in difficult situations, and reminders of who we want to be and the kind of effect we want to have in the world.

I’ve learned that by giving meaning to hardship through words, you can re-create a life around your core values, your strengths, and your intentions.

You can choose to show up with courage every day. You can figure this out. You can survive until you’re ready to do more.

I hope these affirmations give your heart something healing to dwell on, especially when you’re just trying to survive, and then, eventually, when you’re ready, to do more than that with that healing energy.

What story do you want to tell? Think about what you want your story to be. Choose the words that represent that. And use these affirmations to re-create your story of strength.
