Why do YOU exist on this planet?
For most of us this is a question that keeps coming up as we progress in life. And this question especially haunts us when we feel like we are not living a life of purpose in the first place.
Your purpose is why you exist on this planet, but that purpose is sometimes hard to understand. I have known people who have asked this question to themselves at the age of 45, 55, 65 and even 85! Its not that uncommon to question your existence. Infact, on your healing journey, at some point these things will come up. Its healthy to reassess your life from time to time to clarify if you are on the path of your purpose or not.
The best journal prompt to find your purpose is, “What did you love doing when you were a child?”
I need for you to jog your memory to when you were a kid, say 8-12 years and remember what you were seriously obsessed with. What made you jump out of bed in the mornings? What was your mind busy with?
In the midst of chaos and confusion, answering those questions helped me find my purpose years ago.
But today I offer 16 more journal prompts to help you figure out your life’s purpose.
Life’s Purpose
The dictionary meaning of the word “purpose” is “why you do something or why something exists“.
So, by asking, “What’s my life purpose?” we also wonder, “Why do I exist?”
Honestly, noone can answer these questions it without any trace of doubt?
When we talk of of purpose what do we aim for? What are we truly searching for?
“Life can only be understood backward, but it must be lived looking forward.” says Soren Kierkegaard in the first years of the 19th century. Now even after two hundred years, he is still correct.
“life purpose” also means having a solid direction ahead. The “purpose” always comes with being self-aware, happy, content, and valuable!
How to Understand Life Through Journaling
I have found that the most easy and powerful way to find answers within ourselves has always be through writing. Immersing myself into that sacred space where my thoughts have gone silent, but my hand keeps writing words is where the secret to understanding the inner self is.
You have definately heard or practiced keeping a gratitude journal at some point…Journaling for finding your life purpose is also something like that in terms of the positive healing effect it has on your mental health. It is all about grabbing the pen, and allowing yourself to not be profound in the first 10 minutes.
Just writing with the pen on the blank page, ignoring the negativity, and letting your mind play with the journal prompt is enough.
Because it is not about finding an answer but about digging deep enough to understand yourself, the answer then automatically emerges.
If you are ready to dig deep, here are my suggestions on journal prompts you can use to find your life purpose-
