“When your intention is clear, so is the way.” ~ Alan Cohen
Everyone has busy, stress-filled, hectic lives. Right? Some days I barely have time to grab a cup of coffee in the morning, so I think there’s no way I have time to set a daily intention each morning, and that’s precisely why I know I need to. If I don’t set an intention, I let the day determine my mood, rather than taking control and determining how I want the day to be.
An intention is an aim or purpose, something you plan to do or achieve and setting intentions can do truly incredible things for our life.
For me Intention setting is empowering. Instead of feeling like a victim of circumstance, I become the conscious creator of my days and my life.
The benefits of setting intentions are manifold, but it’s not as simple as wishing on a star or meditating on something you want. Here’s how to set intentions the right way…
How to set daily positive intentions?
Setting daily positive intentions can be a powerful way to create a focused, optimistic mindset. Here’s a simple guide to help you get started:
1. Choose a Quiet Space: Find a peaceful spot where you can spend a few minutes undisturbed. This helps you focus and center yourself.
2. Reflect on Your Goals: Take a moment to think about:
- What you want to feel today (e.g., calm, joyful, motivated).
- What values or goals you’d like to align with (e.g., kindness, productivity, self-care).
3. Use Affirmative Statements: Frame your intention as a positive, present-tense statement.
4. Write It Down: Writing your intention solidifies it in your mind. Use a journal, a sticky note, or your phone. Place it somewhere visible to remind yourself throughout the day.
5. Take a Deep Breath: After setting your intention, take 3–5 deep breaths to feel grounded. Visualize yourself embodying your intention.
6. Act with Awareness: As you go through the day, consciously bring your intention into your actions. For instance:
- If your intention is patience, pause before reacting.
- If it’s focus, remind yourself to avoid distractions.
7. End the Day with Gratitude: At night, reflect on how your intention shaped your day. Even small steps toward living your intention are wins worth celebrating.
7 daily intentions I set to bring clarity to my day

1. Today I’ll show up for myself.
I will treat myself with the same kindness and compassion as I shower on my loved ones. I will allow myself to feel my feelings without judgment or abandonment. It’s ok to be me.
2. Today I’ll focus on the tiny sparkling moments in my day.
I will look for the silver lining in the everyday and remind myself of past victories — great and small. I know when I choose to focus on what is working I build resilience and contentment.
3. Today I choose to be grateful no matter what life throws me.
I’m grateful of who I’ve become and all the love available in my life. I will focus on collecting at least 3 new things to be grateful for today. I love my positive mindset.
4. Today I’ll tune in and listen to what I need.
I will prioritize my inner wants and longings. If I need a break I’ll take one, if a boundary is transgressed I’ll speak up. I protect my time and energy from negativity and toxic influences.
5. Today I’ll focus on being a good listener.
I’ll focus on being more present and really listen to what people are saying instead of being distracted by my inner critic that normally find fault in what I do.
6. Today I choose to do what I set out to do.
No matter how big or small — I will keep the promises I make to myself. The more I show up the more I learn to trust in myself and know I am someone to rely on.
7. Today I choose calm — even in charged situations.
My nervous system benefits from me taking a moment, a deep breath to allow myself to think before reacting. By taking charge of my responses I feel empowered and in control of my own destiny.
Setting an intention is like entering a destination into your GPS. It gets you there quicker and with fewer detours.
