Four ways to make sure that today ends better than yesterday

“Everything has its wonders, even darkness and silence, and I learn, whatever state I may be in, therein to be content.”~ Helen Keller

Like most of us I’m sure you started out the year with dreams, good intentions, and new hopes. However, it’s all too easy to let busy schedules, work priorities, stress, and bad weather cloud over the optimism of those great objectives.

Delaying happiness is a big mistake!

While anticipating the arrival of your goals is a wonderful way to create direction for your life, don’t fall into the trap of postponing self-love and happiness until the end of the journey. Delaying happiness is a big mistake! That’s because if you are not having more of the feelings and experiences you want today (more joy, more worthiness, more self-love, etc.), then they won’t be there at the end of the goal journey.

To have a better day today, take a stand and take action.

Here are four ways to make sure that today ends better than yesterday-

1}Are you choosing to make it a great day?
Decide that today will be a great day. If you want to enjoy greater inner peace, contentment, fulfillment, and happiness in your life, you are going to have to shift your focus from everything that is going wrong and make a decision to enjoy today. Place attention on what you could do today to feel even a small bit more confident or hopeful.

2}Are you enjoying life right NOW?
Be present in this moment. How? Take several slow deep breaths. With each breath relax and let go of tension. As you settle down, unwind, let yourself smile. You’ll feel a little better right now.

3}Are you happy in your relationship with your Self?
Make daily decisions that allow you to reprogram yourself to believe that you are deserving of having what you want. You are deserving of feeling good in your body, worthy of focusing on success, and worthy of your own love and appreciation. Although it may require effort and perseverance, you can become your own best friend and unwavering supporter of yourself. Determine how you want to feel and then take daily actions that promote those feelings.

4}Are you taking action to have what you want most?
Remember what you wanted most this year, and then complete one important action today related to your dream. When you achieve one important action, you will feel a sense of accomplishment. That will make you feel great today!

What can I do to enjoy my life today?

“For me there is only the traveling on paths that have heart, on any path that may have heart, and the only worthwhile challenge is to traverse its full length–and there I travel looking, looking breathlessly.” — Carlos Castaneda

Instead of focusing on what you want to banish from your life, focus on actions and choices that add to your life. Make it a point to indulge in heart luxury that increases your joy and love. This doesn’t meaning giving yourself permission to gulp down a pint of Hagen Daz ice cream if you’re deciding to lose weight, or going on a wild spending spree if you’re already struggling with debt. Instead, look within your heart and do something that will make you smile and feel alive inside.
For example:

  • spend time with family and friends who love you,
  • go for a nature walk,
  • read an uplifting book,
  • have deep conversations with God,
  • smile for no reason,
  • see the beauty in the minutest things like a baby’s smile or the colors of nature.

We are always surrounded by beautiful hopeful blessings, but we fail to see them cause we are so caught up in the future or the past.

Happiness right now is possible! You just have to look in the right places with your hearts eyes. The heart knows best. Let it be your guide and see how all your Today’s become better than your yesterday’s….what you will be creating in the long run, is a life full of joy and happiness and no bad days to ever worry about! Isnt that worth persuing?

This is a wonderful post…never delay happiness. It is so easy to be bogged down by the daily routine that we forget to make even the simplest moments as happier than they can be.
    Motivating article. Thank.s

    1. Hi Janaki,
I’m soooo happy you liked the simple suggestions I made here. And you’re absolutely right…we do forget to enjoy the happiness in this very simple moment.

  3. Zeenat,

I am so glad I read this today, as I am feeling that today is such a good day while it is night, I feel content even though we did not do anything major. Because I spent time with family and did things in house that were due for sometimes.

I am glad you wrote about god also as a person who believes in god and prayers can do wonders when we are feeling bit low. My day was good and now it is ending it better and tomorrow will be as good or better. Wishing you same.

    1. Hi Preeti,
Its lovely seeing you here after so long. How have you been?
What an amazing attitude you have…thank you for sharing your happy energy here.
      Sending you lots of love.

  4. Dear Zeenat,
Reading your post calmed me right down especially when you mentioned that we ought to take some deep breaths and relax. This last year has been one of the most challenging of my entire life and remaining in wake of the turbulence has often eluded me. Reading your post reminded me of all the principles I know, all to well but, at times conveniently forget. Thank you dear friend for helping return to my center. Thank you so much or linking to my post on remote viewing too.
    xoxo,
    Angela

    1. Hi Angela,
I’m so so happy that this post had a calming effect on you…you who is already very calm 🙂
As for the last year…we were both in turbulent waters my dear. I too often forgot…but safely came back to my center in time…..but till i got there ohhh it was turbulent !
Your being exudes so much light…thank you for your lovely comment here.
      Much Love~

  5. This is a potent message! To chose in every moment and not get hung up on achieving goals in the distant future. I like your encouragement to take one little step forward! Lovely!

  6. Hi Zeenat,
“Instead of focusing on what you want to banish from your life, focus on actions and choices that add to your life.”

Happiness delayed is happiness denied. 😉

    1. Hi TiTi,
Ohhh so well said…delayed is so totally denied…and denial is the mother of all illnesses. How can happiness dwell where denial exists??
Thank you fro your lovely comment here.
      Love always~

  7. I love this line, Zeenat: “Instead of focusing on what you want to banish from your life, focus on actions and choices that add to your life.” So true!

I once read a little book from the 1970s, if I remember correctly, about a circle that kept trying to get rid of parts of it it did not like until it was left an empty hole. The point, of course, was that we can’t simply NOT be something. We have to fill life with what we WANT to be too. Otherwise, we are empty, a negative entity, the non-existence of unwanted traits. But we should always strive to BE something, not simply NOT be something.

Nicely put, Zeenat! So glad I came across you site!

    1. Hi Ken,
I love having you share your energy and thoughts here. And that example..is so apt. The classic example of the glass is half full come to mind when you shared it 🙂
The more we fill ourselves with positive the lesser space there is for the negative to reside.
I am so so happy that you came over. Hope to see you here more often.
      Much Love~

    Dear Z,

I have been away from the internet for about a month…I guess it must of been my *heart* telling me to take a breather.

This has been good for me to come back at this time and read your message. It is very heartfelt, and appreciated guidance.

Yes it is best to let my ‘hearts eyes’ focus on that which is around me now. Not only to let my *heart* be my guide visually, but to listen to it as my conscience so that what decisions I make, wheather fruitful or not, are at least done with good intentions.

My *heart* was beating pretty good as I made the crest of Cowles Mountain today in 26 minutes (running and fast walking).

My *heart* has been telling me to get back onto some mountain trails…so I am starting to ease into it a bit. Wouldn’t mind doing the whole Pacific Crest Trail before I am dust ( Sorry for having my mind on the future 🙂

I have been reading: ‘The Wilderness World of John Muir’ ‘ Once again: Carl Sandburg’s ‘Abraham Lincoln The Prairie Years And The War Years’. And I am going to get some literature on Simone Weil very soon.

I spent time with my daughters the past week. My eldest went back up to the University yesterday and is taking final exams.

God only knows how much I need to talk to him. I wonder if I ask him will he tell me how much?
…maybe its best to just start talking.

    🙂

“see the beauty in the minutest things like a baby’s smile or the colors of nature.”

    I really love your gravitar Zeenat…very colorful… with you bearing a cherub’s smile 🙂

  9. Zeenat, I love your pointer about pausing, breathing deeply, and re-focusing from the negative to the positive. There are equally as many blessings as there are difficult things in our lives. It’s up to us to practice the power of gratitude, love, faith, and savoring. You are such a force for the positive. Thank you for all you do!

  11. Zeenat,
What a lovely kind and generous person you are. This blog is so joy-ful and celebratory of life. We find so much in the world which is focusing on what is wrong, that it is lovely to find someone focusing on what is and could be right. I stumbled across your blog through Suzie Cheel and her Change Warrior profiles. Thank you for you inspiring thoughts.
