“The life of inner peace, being harmonious and without stress, is the easiest type of existence.” ~Norman Vincent Peale
How do you handle sudden pop-out-of-the-box stress?
We all have our share of worries and stress. Some stem from big issues and some from really really small issues. If you say you don’t worry or stress at all, I might believe you, but I don’t think you will believe yourself the next time you mutter foul language under your breath in traffic or the next time your child throws a tantrum and you scream.
See, I told you, we all have stress, me included. But the good news is we CAN handle it. I wrote a while back about Stress in which I shared ways on how you can stress less. In a gist, the ways included, meditation, breathing techniques and many more ways which included lifestyle changes as well. Now all these methods work like a charm. But, what happens when you have an interview in one hour and you are freaking out? What happens when you have a major deal to land in the next 15 minutes and you are sweating profusely? What do you do to de-stress in that short span of time?
Try This:
5 Fun and Positive Quick tips to Stress LESS
1. Laugh On-
“Laughter is an instant vacation.” ~Milton Berle
Who doesnt love a great belly laugh?? I know I do 🙂 Somehow a good laugh seems to ease the stress dramatically and instantly. The next time you are stressing try thinking of a funny joke, a funny event that happened recently, or just picture the person standing next to you in a clown outfit. Whatever tickles your funny bone. I personally love to simply visualize everyones head as a huge bright yellow sunflower. It gets me to smile everytime 🙂 Other ways are maybe saving a joke or a funny clip in your mobile phone for a quick giggle reference 🙂
2. Play On
“I still get wildly enthusiastic about little things… I play with leaves. I skip down the street and run against the wind.” Leo F. Buscaglia
I love love love games. Computer games, board games, who stole the cookie games with kids, running around the tress, catching butterflies, playing with the cat who passes my way….Why? Cause they help me unwind quickly. Usually in a stressful situation, I look around me and most often find something to play with. It might be a child, it might be a pet, it might be the magazine in your hand. Anything can lead to play, if you want it to. And if you still cant think of anything to play with around you then, take out your mobile phone and play a game in it. Simple play Instant Smiles 🙂
3. Choc On
“Researchers have discovered that chocolate produces some of the same reactions in the brain as marijuana. The researchers also discovered other similarities between the two but can’t remember what they are.” Matt LauerAlright
I have to admit, I always always carry a bar of dark chocolate around in my handbag. Its my instant fix to all things negative. Its my magic wonder feel good drug. I don’t use it often, but I like the idea of knowing that this magic wonder is in my reach anytime, just waiting to diffuse me of all things bad and negative. Next time you are freaking out, pop in a piece and melt that stress away. Oh and don’t forget to wipe your hands and mouth after 😉
4. Dream On
“Practical people would be more practical if they would take a little more time for dreaming.”
I’m a dreamer. I dream of rainbows and butterflies, of world peace and happiness. I dream of my biggest dreams with eyes wide open. It brings that dream to reality. Whenever I am upset or stressed, I almost always think of my big big dreams with such vivid colors and perfect detail, I can actually feel the bliss of it coming true. Right there in that moment, all my stress vanishes. Try it. Its your very own personal Dream Dvd 🙂
5. Hug On
“I will not play tug o’ war. I’d rather play hug o’ war. Where everyone hugs instead of tugs, Where everyone giggles and rolls on the rug, Where everyone kisses, and everyone grins, and everyone cuddles, and everyone wins.” Shel Silverstein
Nothing and I mean nothing can make me feel as good as a hug can. Isn’t it awesome that the one giving the hug and the one receiving the hug both love it. Its an instant feel good booster. Its possible that you don’t have any friends around you can hug, or any family when you are standing in line or in traffic or waiting to get into a major meeting…thats OK, hug yourself! Just wrap your arm around and squeeze. Try it right now….It works wonders 🙂

Dear Ute,
Lets think about it….hugging with chocolate……oh shucks we have a fun winner here for sure 😉
So so glad this post made you feel good in all the right places 🙂
Thank you for your lovely comment here.
Much Love~
Hi Zeenat, these tips brought a quick smile to my face! Thanks. ‘Hug yourself’…that would be real fun! never heard about it. While chocolates have always helped me, I have never tried dreaming in stressful moments, good idea!
Many times we have discussed and applied shopping therapy. It is really helpful, a lot of my friends actually go shopping to de-stress. Of course you got to have a bagful of money!
Hi Balroop,
I can just see you *smiling* darling 🙂
And hugging yourself feels so good its not even funny. Do try it.
Although I love shopping, I prefer a cookie and coffee instead…easy on the tummy, the mood and the pocket eh 😉 Stress shopping often leads to unwanted purchases and super waste of precious money. Window shopping and coffee for me work just fine.
Love your comment here.
So Much love~
Nice Zeenat! This is a delightfully simple and useful post. Yes, I had a big smile too like Balroop.
Well Brad, You DO have a *SMILE* that CAN light up the room …and in this case my blog! Shine on brother )
So happy you liked this fun post.
Thank you for your smiley comment here.
Much Love~
Much love to you too Zeenat, It’s always a pleasure to connect with you. Thanks for your presence and light. I’ll keep on shining with you!
These are all such adorable ways to deal with stress! Just looking at the photos is uplifting. But, added to your wise and humorous words, there’s true intelligence here!
Dear Sandra,
Kids always know how to live stress free. Just looking at them is de-stressing enough right 🙂 Hence my heart felt like adding kids to this post.
And when you say intelligent…I feel all happy inside 😉 thank you for your kind words dear one.
Love you lots~
Your tips are perfect, Zeenat, and so easy to remember and implement! And, though the holidays are fun, they do bring stress with them, you are so right. Hope your holidays a blessed and stress-free! )
Love it Zeenat especially choc on and hug on. I would add walk on- just talking a walk in nature or at the beach is a stress breaker ♡
Hi Zeenat, Wonderful Tips and imagine while reading to know that its exactly the things I love to do!! Laugh, Play, A Choco freak, A dreamer and would always do with a hug!! Super!
…so in our community we have plenty of cats that pass by and one in particular is Minnie the Moocher, who holds no allegiance to anyone…she will surely drop you for another back scratch up the lane. At night one does have to take care that you are not back scratching one of the many skunks that roam free though…
Our community is kind of like ‘Alice’s Restaurant: “The researchers also discovered other similarities between the two but can’t remember what they are.” …now that’s funny Z. At our Thanksgiving gathering yesterday we did not have chocolate or that other similar “feel good drug”, but we had a huge variety of food and plenty of laughs.
Here is the prayer that I read as we all held hands before sitting down to dinner:
Poem in Thanks
Lord Whoever, thank you for this air
I’m about to in- and exhale, this hutch
in the woods, the wood for fire,
the light–––both lamp and the natural stuff
of leaf-black fern, and wing.
For the piano, the shovel
for ashes, the moth-gnawed
blankets, the stone-cold water
stone-cold: thank you.
Thank you, Lord, coming for
to carry me here–––where I’ll gnash
it out, Lord, where I’ll calm
and work, Lord, thank you
for the goddamn birds singing!
~ Thomas Lux
I love these because they are quick and easy with immediate results. I might add “Breathe on!” Deep belly breaths are my favorite technique for freak out situations.
And sometimes a quick minute of counting blessings helps, too. I came by today to say thank you for being a blessing in blog world. I have posted my last blog post, at least for awhile. I hope you’ll stop by. Meanwhile, I’m visiting others to say thank you for all that I have benefited from at your site these last few years. Thank you.
