“Plant your own garden and decorate your own soul instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.” ~ Veronica Shoffstall
What makes a beautiful soul? Why do we *need* to make efforts to beautify this soul?
As you begin your day whats the first thing you do? I personally get up to brush my pearly whites and make coffee. After which there is a regular routine in place till I get ready for the day. There is so much we all do to beautify our physical selves from the start of our day till our day comes to an end. We use the best cosmetics, we wear the most comfortable clothes, we eat the tastiest food, we stay in cozy homes….the list of our physical wants that beautify our physical lives is endless.
Our endless pursuit to beautify our physical world is making us more and more materialistic as a collective society. We want the latest gadgets, the latest in fashion, the latest everything….we are first in line to *upgrade* our physical lives….but sadly last in line to *upgrade* our souls.
Ironically, its this physical, mortal life, that WILL come to an abrupt end…while our immortal soul lives on and on. Logically, we should be paying more attention to something that lasts forever than on something temporary ..right?!
Lets pause this endless pursuit to beautify *just* our physical/temporary lives and focus on the beautification of our immortal soul while this physical form still gives us time! Time my darlings, is of the essence in the beautification of the soul.
Embrace these 5 Attributes to Beautify Your Soul (while there is still time!)
Just like there are certain attributes in the physical world that are considered beautiful, there are certain attributes every soul must embrace, possess and hone to beautify their soul. Here they are:
1) Compassion
“Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.” ~Albert Einstein
Compassion is having mercy, love and sweetness for yourself and others, no matter what else you might be experiencing. It is the ability to treat yourself and others lovingly in the face of failure, rejection, defeat, and other difficult experiences. And it is the ability to embrace yourself as human, having a wide variety of human experiences. Compassion beautifies the soul like the sun gives life to flowers.
2) Acceptance
“Acceptance doesn’t mean resignation; it means understanding that something is what it is and that there’s got to be a way through it.” ~ Michael J. Fox
Accept that sometimes you are really fun to be with and sometimes you just might want to be left alone. Its ok. Accept what your heart tells and do that. People might raise eyebrows, but as long as you can say “Hey, that’s just me being ME” (without being obnoxious) and leave it at that, people will ultimately respect you for it, and you’ll respect yourself. Acceptance of self, makes you accept the world around you in a more positive light. This acceptance beautifies your soul because when you accept, you dont argue, you dont judge, you dont fight…you just *are* living in this moment completely free of negativity.
3) Forgiveness
“Let your wings of forgiveness flutter and take you into a garden where the flowers of peace blossom.” -Dodinsky
To forgive someone does not mean that whatever harm or hurt that they caused you was not inappropriate. It means that you will no longer allow the past to have a hold on your life today; that you are willing to release the hurt and the pain; that you no longer wish to be tied to the experience or the person connected to the experience in a negative way; that you are releasing both yourself and the person you need to forgive from a tie that holds you both back; that you wish to be free; that your soul deserves to feel joy. Honing this attribute allows your soul to take flight. It allows you to BE clear of past and future negativity making way for only joy.
4) Courage
“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” ~ Nelson Mandela
Courage is not overcoming fear, but rather it is standing on ground, inspite of it. No-one ever failed because he was afraid; he only fails in life because he does nothing about his fear and did not display courage. Fear arises from lack of knowledge and uncertainty. Knowledge and certainty are important as they help us find courage and determination. But we must add a deep dedication and conviction to knowledge and understanding, to destroy fear and tip the balance in a positive way. Becoming courageous is an attribute of an evolved soul. Keep learning, so that you can become more and more openly courageous and allow your soul to beautifully rise.
5) Kindness
“Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of (God’s) kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile.” ~ Mother Teresa
To be kind is to show and express gestures of good will, combining sympathy, forbearance, graciousness and humanism. Kindness transcends all boundaries and borders. Kindness connects us, no matter what we believe, where we live, or how we earn a living. Kindness is the common language of the heart that touches every soul. A smile, a generous gesture, an act of caring transcends all our differences. Kindness is the key to a life well lived and a soul adorned with immense beauty. Kindness matters. Kindness is simply the cherry on the beautiful soul cake 🙂
Don’t let your life pass you by in the pursuit of physical and materialistic pleasures. Give yourself the gift of beautifying your eternal soul. Not only will you feel amazing, this new found positivity will pave the way for greater spiritual success and healing.
And the best part, we already have a beautiful soul. We just need to update and activate it from the negative rubble of life’s conditioning!

Hi Zeenat,
The BEAUTY of your soul permeates your thoughts, it speaks through the words, it can touch my soul. Kindness and forgiveness stand out!
The beauty of our soul is also embellished by Giving and Caring. Yes, kindness comes first then only we can have the heart of giving – give a loving nod, a warm smile, an encouraging word to a dejected person around us.
Materialistic pleasures are momentary but the beauty we pass on through our gestures lives on! Thanks for the awakening calls.
Dear Balroop,
You see so much goodness here, because you embody those very same qualities! Thank you for your loving words…I am floored 🙂
Love how you say “Materialistic pleasures are momentary but the beauty we pass on through our gestures lives on!”
Beautiful!
Thank you for your insightful comment here.
Much Love~
I so agree, Zeenat! I see how challenging it is to shift the focus from the material to the non-material at the same time, but feel it is more important than ever. I especially resonate with your thoughts on how acceptance leads to non-judgment, which is a major topic on my mind at the moment. It takes very deep wisdom to realize this fully. We desperately need these reminders, Zeenat. Thank you so much.
Dear Sandra,
I too yo yo between the material and the non-material world….but I try to lean more towards the non material. Whats the point of this spiritual growth if it still keeps the greedy bone in us so alive!?
Thank you so much for your loving comment here.
Much Love~

Really love thoughts once again! Your soul shines through each and every one of your posts, and you always have a beautiful way of expressing your thoughts…I have learned at this age to never underestimate the importance of beautifying your soul. In the past I lived in fear of my appearance and surface level observations, but what makes an individual beautiful is the soul! Thanks for reminding me of how important this is once again.
I’m always ready to positively remind your soul 😉 I take my positively provocative job very seriously 🙂
I love that you have realized the importance of beautifying your soul. Isn’t it so completely freeing?!

Hello Zeenat,
From time to time I will read ‘Seven Arrows’ by Hyemeyohsts Storm. The book was originally introduced to me in the 1970’s by my college philosophy professor…please excuse the length of this excerpt:
The Touching
To Touch and Feel is to Experience. Many people live out their entire lives without really Touching or being Touched by anything. These people live within a world of mind and imagination that may move them sometimes to joy, tears, happiness or sorrow. But, these people never really Touch. They do not live and become one with Life.
The Sun Dancer believes that each person is a unique Living Medicine Wheel, powerful beyond imagination, that has been limited and placed upon this Earth to Touch, Experience and Learn. The Six Grandfathers Taught me that each man, woman and child at one time was a Living Power and existed somewhere in time and space. These Powers were without form, but they were aware. They were alive.
Each Power possessed boundless energy and beauty. These living Medicine Wheels were capable of nearly anything. They were beautiful and perfect in all ways except one. They had no understanding of limitation, no experience of substance. These beings were total energy of the Mind, without Body or Heart. They were placed upon Earth that they might Learn the things of the Heart through Touching.
According to the Teachers, there is only one thing that all people possess equally. This is their loneliness. No two people on the face of this Earth are alike in any one thing except for their loneliness. This is the cause of our Growing, but it is also the cause of our wars.
Love, hate, greed and generosity are all rooted within our loneliness, within our desire to be needed and loved.
The only way that we can overcome our loneliness is through Touching. It is only in this way that we can learn to be Total Beings. God is a presence of this Total, Heamavihio, the Breath of Wisdom and Miaheyyum , Total Understanding are but two words in the Cheyenne language which express this Wholeness.

Acceptance
